How to choose server memory
DDR3, DDR4 and DDR5 modules are keyed differently and do not interchange, so the generation your platform accepts comes first. Registered (RDIMM), load-reduced (LRDIMM) and unbuffered (UDIMM) modules cannot be mixed in one system: add the type already installed, or replace the full bank. Match rank and speed to the existing modules, and read an installed part number from iDRAC or iLO when in doubt.
