Server Processors questions

Which Server Processors brands does Memory Clearance carry?

The most listed brands in Server Processors are Dell, HPE, HP, IBM, Intel and Lenovo. Every listing names its manufacturer and part number, so you can search by either.

Are these Server Processors products new or refurbished?

Both. Of the 30,815 listings, 10,741 state a condition: 9,483 are refurbished and 1,258 are new. The other 20,074 do not record one, so ask for it when you request a quote. The condition shown on a listing is the condition you receive.

How do I get a price on a Server Processors part?

8,459 Server Processors listings show a price you can order at. Items marked "Call for Price" have a Request for Quote button; send the part number and quantity and the sales team replies weekdays between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm PST.

How to choose a server CPU

Server processors here are Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC CPUs sold as bare parts ("Processor Only": no heatsink, no carrier unless stated), in new and refurbished condition (what each grade means), from current sockets back through end-of-life generations. Choosing one comes down to three checks in order: the socket on your board, the CPU generations that board supports within that socket, and the core count, clock, cache, and TDP you want inside that support list. Memory Clearance lists server processors, including the E5-generation Xeons that keep older dual-socket fleets in service.

Socket first. Every listing names its socket: FCLGA3647 for first and second generation Xeon Scalable (Silver, Gold, Platinum lines), FCLGA4677 for recent Xeon Scalable, FCLGA2011-3 for Xeon E5 v3/v4, SP3 for EPYC 7001/7002/7003 series. The physical socket must match your board; nothing else matters until it does.

Generation second. A matching socket does not guarantee support. SP3 spans three EPYC generations and board firmware decides which ones boot; E5 v3 and v4 share a socket but require board support for v4. Check your server's supported-CPU list (Dell and HPE publish one per model and generation) before quoting, or send us the server model with the quote and we will match against it.

Configuration third. Within the supported list, choose by core count, base clock, cache, and TDP. Higher-TDP parts need the heatsink class and airflow the chassis was configured for. In multi-socket systems, populate with identical CPU models: mixing different models across sockets is unsupported on the platforms this catalog serves.

Note what "Processor Only" means: the CPU itself. Heatsinks, carriers and shrouds are platform parts, ordered separately. If your upgrade adds a second CPU to a single-CPU server, you typically also need the second heatsink and, on some platforms, additional fans; ask in the quote and we will flag what the platform requires.

Refurbished CPUs are a rational buy: a processor has no wear mechanism comparable to drives, and a working part behaves identically to a new one at the same stepping. The condition shown on a listing is the condition you receive; warranty terms are on the warranty page.

Server processors buying questions

Does a server CPU include the heatsink?

No. "Processor Only" listings ship the bare CPU. The heatsink is platform-specific and ordered separately; include your server model in the quote and we will list what you need.

Can I mix two different CPUs in a dual-socket server?

No. Populate multi-socket systems with identical processor models. When adding a second CPU, match the exact model of the first.

How do I know which socket my server has?

Check iDRAC or iLO, or the server model documentation. The socket is also stated in every listing name here (Socket FCLGA3647, SP3, and so on).

Is a used or refurbished CPU risky?

CPUs are among the longest-lived server components. The meaningful risks are bent pads and the wrong stepping for the board; check the condition grade on the listing. See condition grades.

Buying server processors in volume

Quantity, not price, is usually the constraint on a large secondary-market order. In Server Processors we hold 1,508 distinct parts with 25 or more units available, 250,716 units in total. Depth varies by part number, so a volume request is answered against the exact number you need.

Send the part number, the quantity, the condition you will accept and the server model. Multi-socket systems have to be populated with identical models, so name the exact part number rather than a description of the CPU. Send a volume request through the contact form, putting the part numbers and quantities in the message, or read how to get quantity pricing. Quotes are answered weekdays 8:00 am to 5:00 pm PST.
